Migrant Rights Working Group

The Migrant Rights Working Group organizes in solidarity with migrant communities across San Diego County through rapid response networks, community self-defense, political education, and coalition organizing. The working group supports efforts to resist immigration enforcement overreach, defend vulnerable community members, and build long-term systems of solidarity and protection rooted in working-class power. Members coordinate closely with allied community organizations and local partners to support campaigns, trainings, and direct response efforts throughout the region.

The working group is open to all members, and no prior organizing experience is required to get involved. Volunteers can participate in a variety of ways depending on their skills, availability, and comfort level, including rapid response support, outreach, logistics, research, communications, and community defense efforts. Organizing is conducted with an emphasis on safety, legality, discipline, and effectiveness.

The group hosts regular meetings and coordinates ongoing work through the chapter Discord and Signal channels. Members interested in joining the effort should introduce themselves in the #migrant-rights Discord channel to stay informed about meetings, trainings, campaigns, and volunteer opportunities.

People Over Papers Priority Resolution

At the February 1, 2026 General Assembly, DSA San Diego adopted the People Over Papers Priority Resolution, making migrant solidarity and rapid response organizing a major chapter priority for the year. This includes expanded coordination through the Migrant Rights Coordinating Committee and increased chapter-wide support for organizing efforts related to migrant justice, community defense, and resistance to immigration enforcement abuses.

Rapid Response & Community Defense

The Migrant Rights Working Group helps organize rapid response efforts and community support systems designed to respond quickly and effectively to immigration enforcement activity and related threats to local communities. This work prioritizes protecting vulnerable residents, sharing accurate information, supporting impacted families, and coordinating with trusted community organizations. Members receive training and guidance to participate in ways that are safe, legal, and effective.

Coalition Organizing

The working group collaborates with labor unions, immigrant rights organizations, community groups, and other movement partners throughout San Diego County. Through coalition work, members support broader campaigns for migrant justice, oppose policies that enable federal immigration overreach, and help strengthen local networks of solidarity and collective action.
