The Electoral Working Group

The Electoral Working Group organizes campaigns in support of candidates and ballot measures endorsed by DSA San Diego. We coordinate canvassing, phone-banking, text-banking, voter outreach, and coalition work with allied organizations across the county. Our goal is to build working-class political power around issues like housing affordability, public investment, labor rights, and democratic socialism. If you want to get involved, the best way to stay up to date is by joining the chapter Discord and introducing yourself in the #electoral-general channel. No prior experience is required — we are always looking for more people to help build our organizing capacity.

The working group hosts a public meeting once per month, along with internal coordinating meetings every other week focused on campaign planning and volunteer coordination. Most meetings, phone-banks, and text-banks are held virtually, while canvasses take place in person throughout San Diego County. Many of these events are open to the public and listed on our calendar - first timers are always welcome and accommodated. Organizing work also happens continuously through Discord and Signal, where we coordinate turnout efforts, plan upcoming actions, and work alongside coalition partners on shared campaigns and endorsements.

2026 Elections Priority Resolution

At the February 1, 2026 General Assembly, DSA San Diego members adopted the 2026 Elections Priority Resolution, making electoral organizing a major chapter focus for the year. The resolution prioritizes building long-term socialist political power through consistent electoral groundwork and organizing around an affordability agenda that addresses housing costs, public services, and economic inequality in San Diego County.

California Propositions: Billionaire Tax & Prop 55 Extension

This year, DSA San Diego organized canvasses across San Diego and Oceanside in support of two statewide ballot initiatives: a proposed one-time 5% tax on California billionaires and an extension of Proposition 55 funding for public schools. Members participated in both door-to-door and crowd canvassing efforts to gather signatures and educate voters on the measures.

San Diego Measure A: Vacant Homes Tax

DSA San Diego endorsed Measure A, introduced by Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera, which would place a tax on vacant homes in the City of San Diego. The measure aims to address housing affordability by discouraging corporate speculation and long-term vacancies among investment and vacation properties. Our campaign team has been working hard, activating an internally record-breaking number of DSA Members to door knock in support of Measure A.

Alexander Kraft for El Cajon Mayor

DSA San Diego has endorsed Alexander Kraft, a socialist candidate running for Mayor of El Cajon. The chapter plans to work in coalition with the Party for Socialism and Liberation as the campaign develops. Coordinating efforts on the Kraft Campaign will begin soon, and members interested in getting involved are encouraged to join the Discord to stay informed about upcoming volunteer opportunities and campaign launches.
