2026 Elections Priority Resolution

At the February 1, 2026 General Assembly, the membership of DSA San Diego voted to adopt the 2026 Elections Priority Resolution. Priority resolutions represent major chapter-wide focuses for the year and receive additional organizational attention, resources, and coordination across the chapter. This resolution commits DSA San Diego to building long-term socialist political power through strategic electoral organizing centered on an affordability agenda in the lead-up to the 2026 elections.

The resolution also formalizes the expanded role of the Electoral Working Group in coordinating campaign activity, coalition work, volunteer mobilization, and member recruitment throughout the election cycle. Members interested in participating in electoral organizing, canvassing, phone-banking, or campaign support can learn more on the Electoral Working Group page and join the chapter Discord to get involved. The full text of the resolution, as adopted by the chapter membership, appears below for reference.

Resolution Text

Whereas DSA San Diego recently reestablished its Electoral Working Group to focus

and coordinate the Chapter’s electoral activities.

Whereas in 2025, DSA San Diego members participated in multiple electoral

mobilizations, including: walking with Labor in support of Paloma Aguirre for Board of

Supervisors; walking with Latinos en Acción in support of the Phil Ortiz recall effort in El

Cajon; and walking with the Grossmont Educators Association and concerned parents

in support of the Scott Eckert recall effort in the Grossmont Union High School District.

Whereas DSA San Diego just engaged in its largest electoral mobilization in chapter

history, campaigning for passage of Proposition 50 with a socialist analysis.

Whereas the experience of DSA chapters throughout the country shows that the most

effective DSA electoral campaigns are ones where: 1) the candidate has demonstrable

path to victory – which could be based on their prior electoral performance, the

chapter’s ability to deliver the margin of victory, and/or other fundamentals of the race

(partisan tilt of the district, the candidate’s demonstrated fundraising potential,

endorsements, the field of other candidates); and 2) the race has the potential to unite

DSA and allies around issues of shared concern.

Whereas DSA San Diego has the potential to significantly expand its power and

membership by running strategically targeted campaigns, beginning with the 2026

elections.

Whereas other large DSA chapters, such as NYC DSA, DSA LA, and Twin Cities DSA

have seen substantial growth in membership and influence via similar focused electoral

campaigns.

Whereas the historic victory in 2025 by Zohran Mamdani as New York City Mayor

shows that DSA campaigns which focus on an affordability agenda can gain mass

support.

Be it resolved that DSA San Diego will make building socialist power through the 2026

elections via effective electoral campaigns that focus on an affordability agenda a

priority of chapter activities through election day in November 2026.

Be it further resolved that the Electoral Working Group of DSA San Diego will establish

a coordinating subcommittee in order to facilitate the tactical implementation of

large-scale involvement by DSA San Diego in the 2026 elections.

Be it further resolved that internal organizing and membership recruitment will form a

core aspect of DSA San Diego’s electoral program throughout the 2026 cycle.

Be it further resolved that DSA San Diego will engage with all Working Groups and

Branches within the chapter during the 2026 election cycle, incorporating the diverse

strengths of our chapter working groups: including such activities as winning union

endorsements and coordinating protest actions with socialist candidates.

Be it finally resolved that DSA San Diego will utilize the power and membership built in

this election cycle to build a “Socialists in Office” (SIO) program for our chapter.
